According to the CDC, an estimated 385,000 annual sharps-related injuries occur among healthcare workers. Healthcare trainees specifically, including medical students and resident physicians, are thought to be at high risk for needlestick or sharps injuries due to their lack of procedural experience. This study examines the prevalence of sharps injuries among USF medical students and USF resident physicians and compares these to other US training institutions and to pooled US data on sharps injuries to determine the their relative prevalence from 2010-2017 as well as trends in prevalence having emerged since a 2010 study of the same.
