In order to address two notable gaps (i.e., inaccurate unit of analysis and few test of interaction effect) in Job Characteristics Model (JCM; Hackman & Oldham, 1976), this study used multilevel modeling techniques to analyze the main effect of job autonomy at the individual level and skill variety at the occupational level on job satisfaction and perceived general health respectively, as well as the cross-level interaction between job autonomy and occupational skill variety.
